1) Keep the copy short and simple

The best window graphics have short and simple wording. Generally speaking, people are unlikely to read more than 10 words – so why bother making the text on your window graphic any longer than it needs to be?

It’s also important to think about language. Complex and specialist terms should be avoided at all costs, but buzz words – such as ‘right now’ and ‘this week only’ – are a great way to attract attention with promotional messages.

The goal is to keep your window sign as concise and captivating as possible, attracting the attention of any passersby and getting your message across in a matter of seconds.

2) Choose the right font styles and sizes

Your new window graphics need to be easy to read, so it’s important to select an appropriate font and font size. We recommend using two different font styles, from two different font categories (i.e. sans, sans serif, and decorative).

This helps to break up the text and adds visual appeal to the vinyl graphics. You should also make sure that text and logos are large enough to read from a reasonable distance.

For more long-term vinyl graphics, self-adhesive window graphics may be the better option. These come with a self-adhesive backing on one side to ensure they stick firmly. Whether you want to apply the window vinyl graphics on the outside or not will also determine which side should stick to the glass. Applying graphics on the inside offers more protection, but while it’s see-through, glass isn’t 100% transparent – it often has a greenish hue that can affect how the window graphic colours look from the other side.

In most cases, this is the most effective way to install window graphics:

1) Clean the window with a methylated spirit spray and wipe it dry. If required, spray the clean window with soapy water to improve adhesion.

2) Position the window graphic sticker where you want it – you may need to use masking tape tabs and a spirit level to make sure it’s straight.

3) Remove the backing paper and any tape, and lightly press the vinyl sticker into place. You can spray warm water to help adjust it on the flat surface.

4) When it’s positioned correctly, use a paddle, squeegee, or something similar to squeeze out any air bubbles and water to the edges.

5) Leave the window stickers to dry and don’t let anything touch them for a while.
